The Sisterhood was the name of two bands. The first was Wayne Hussey and Craig Adams' band (which later went on to be called The Mission).

The second was a side project set up by Andrew Eldritch to stop Hussey getting hold of the name for his band. Eldritch's plan worked by releasing a record under the name faster than Hussey et al could.

Eldritch's version of The Sisterhood released one single, Giving Ground, and one album, Gift. Andrew Eldritch wrote and produced the music, but for contractural reasons was unable to sing officially, though does sing Colours & Giving Ground unofficially, as Warner still held him under contract. It was commonly believed that James Ray sang/spoke all of the lyrics until he denied singing on The Sisterhood's version of Colours, in an interview with the Heartland fan-site here.Ray confirmed that it was Lucas Fox doing the vocals for Rain from Heaven as well at that forum. The Sisterhood also featured Lucas Fox, Patricia Morrison and Alan Vega.

One of the tracks from the album, Colours, was later re-recorded as a b-side for This Corrosion, and the single Giving Ground has been played live by the Sisters of Mercy in recent years.
